As a partner organization with Cerner Corporation, PowerWorks software is made available to the client and physician partners of United Medical. The Cerner electronic medical record (EMR) operates in real-time and is a completely integrated database within the United Medical Network. With a focus on quality patient care, the integration of patient health information allows the various care teams to support the providers in coordinating the best possible patient care in the most efficient manner to reduce costs across our network.
Due to our partnership with Cerner, we have been utilizing Specialty Practice Management (SPM) since 2006. We serve over 100 practices and 27 specialties’ billing and management needs. Approximately 90% of our billing clients use SPM. We are currently transitioning multiple clients from legacy systems (PDS), working through demographic imports and EMR integrations.
For reference, SPM is a user-friendly system that helps practices standardize their workflows. SPM has proven efficient in meeting even the busiest of practice’s needs from patient registration to billing claims to payers, posting payments, AR denial management, and everything in between. United Medical and SPM provide a seamless experience for revenue cycle management. Customizable registration data entry fields make for easy-to-follow patient registration and scheduling process while helping to eliminate errors and create a set standard for multi-location practices. Insurance verification and appointment reminders as well as authorization tracking for specialties are all available features as well. A designated Patient Monitor checkout feature makes for seamless charge entry and charges posting upon checkout. SPM includes a host of financial and demographic reporting to help track production, financials, payments, adjustments, and patient contact information among other things. These are all exportable to Excel and Word thanks to its integrations with Microsoft Word and Excel.
SPM interfaces with our EMR – PowerChart, and this combination ensures increased efficiency for our clients. Because of our relationship with Cerner, we serve as beta testers for the SPM software and over the years we have worked directly with Cerner management suggesting SPM enhancements. When Cerner tests SPM updates and enhancements they work with United Medical leadership for ways they can further upgrade/improve the software. Therefore, United Medical is an integral part of how SPM evolves and grows. All of this has led to unparalleled expertise using SPM to best serve and support our clients.
Our Business Development department offers extensive training for SPM at the time of implementation, as well as continued training and support as needed. We train each new provider and staff as well as provide workflow refreshers, and review sessions on any system updates. United Medical provides 24/7 local IT support as well.
